Last days in Kiwiland
The depression hit me two days before I had to leave the stunning Kiwiland. I wondered why I had decided to book a non refundable ticket to Australia, I came up with so many reasons why to stay and ideas how to be able to, but in the end I realised that it was time. It's better to leave when it's still amazing, not that I think that New Zealand could ever be boring.
I stayed at the YHA Central this time as well, it's so cozy and nice, not very social though.. But I managed to find two amazing girls, Elena and Sadie. We stayed in the same room and thanks to these two girls I didn't feel all miserable and pathetic my last days in New Zealand. We decided to meet up in England in April, so I'm going to England in April. I have no idea how I will finance that but it'll work out one way or another!
I did a little bit of site seeing in Christchurch, not a lot, but a little bit. Christchurch is a special place on earth and I liked it, most people don't since it is all destroyed after a big earthquake a few years ago. The city centre was completely destroyed and over 180 people died that day. They have started to build the city again but it all moves very slowly, for me that's one of the beautiful things about Christchurch, though, that you can see it being built from, pretty much, scratch. I also think it is amazing that all the people stayed and are now trying to build their lives again, they didn't give up and they were really creative as well.
The new start mall is one of the big tourist attractions in Christchurch. It's a mall (kind of) made of shipping containers in the middle of the city. I love the thought! "Well, everything is destroyed, we have to build something quick, let's take some shipping containers, paint them in different colours and but in some huge windows. Tadaaa!!" It's so creative and innovative! And it looks really modern and cool as well.
I also took a walk in the botanical gardens, which are so beautiful and peaceful. You can not feel the, quite sad, atmosphere of the city centre at all. It's a weird but wonderful contrast.
Aaron, one of the guys who drove me to dunedin, also drove me to the airport. so nice of him, it made my life a bit easier And it was so nice to see him one more time before I left.
