Windy welly
Wellington is one of my favourite places in New Zealand. The sunny weather helped a bit ofcours, but I really liked it even when it was raining. I got the Gothenburg feeling from the start and since I love Gothenburg, I immediatly fell in love with the place. A lot of amazing stuff happened here, I will try my best to give you a quick but detailed picture of my stay in this beautiful city, even though it will be a mission.
I arrived in the afternoon and went to the hostel I had booked, went to my room, started to pack up and then all of a sudden the door opened and Hagar came in. It was a happy surprise for sure! We went to the beach in the middle of the city, yes there is a beach in the city centre doesn't get much better than that, does it?
I went out, together with Hagar and all the people from stray, the first night. I didn't stay long though but I had a great time. Later in the week, I went out with a girl named Sofie, a Swedish girl who lives in Wellington. I had a great time, we visited her favourite places and even though I can't remember the name of any of them, I liked them all.
Except for the beach, which I went to several times during my stay, and all the pubs and clubs, there is tons of other amazing things you can do in Wellington. Just walking around in the city is amazing, it actually feels like someone tried to build a beautiful city instead of just something easy, most cities in NZ feels a bit rushed and they are usually quite ugly. The museum, which I went to together with a newfound friend, is really good and it's free! We, me and George (the friend I was talking about) spent a few hours in there, playing games and we even got in the newspaper (in a game though, but still). After a long, hard day of museum exploring, we went to a foodcourt somewhere. A lot of cheap and good food, yummy! So, I guess you could say that was a good day.
I had decided to get a tattoo in New Zealand long before I even came here, so the day after, I went to a tattoo artist that Sofie recomended and got a tattoo! CRAZY! The tattoo is two footprints, walking on my wrist, towards my hand and inside of them there is a Maori pattern. It represent traveling and growing while exploring the world. I am very happy with it!
Another highlight from this week was the piano next to the sea, I've been writing about them before but I'll do it again because I love the idea! So, in some cities here in NZ there are pianos on the streets. Nice people have donated them and the local shops or restaurants make sure they come out on sunny days. It is a wonderful idea and sometimes really good pianists plays. It is a way to make the streets a bit more fun to walk and to bring some music to the city. I love the idea and wish Sweden could do this as well. It is also a great way to meet new friends, I went to play and started talking to a guy who also wanted to play, we played together for a while and ended up spending the whole day together. Music brings joy and happiness, that is a fact!
