Iceland road trip #1
We started our Friday a bit to early since Olivia hadn't changed the time on her phone, so the alarm went off at 07.00 instead of 09.00. After figuring that out and laughing about it for a while we went back to sleep and got up again at 09.00 instead. We packed our bags and walked towards the car rental place. The car we're renting is tiny but really nice to drive actually and it barely needs any fuel at all!
After finding our way out of Reykjavi, we went to Geysir. It was pretty cool and one of the "pools" erupted just in front of us. Our second stop was gullfoss, we both loved it. It was truly breathtaking! I would love to go there again and I could probably just stand and watch it for hours! Gullfoss is probably our favorite so far.
We continued north and stopped next to the road to cook some dinner and sleep in the car. It wasn't comfortable but it was actually better than I thought it would be! The next day we woke up to the most amazing views. We found a small cafe just about a kilometer from where we'd stayd and they had coffee and waffles! It tasted so good! The views where just amazing all day and we stopped at several places to take pictures. We decided to turn and drive on what seemed to be a smaller road along the ocean. It turned out to be the longest gravel road ever! We found some really nice places though and I hiked up a mountain, which probably didn't make my blisters any better...
We ended the day with a dip in a hot spring which we'd found on google last time we had wifi. It was really hard to get there, a bad gravel road most of the way, but it was worth it! The spring was located just by the sea and the water was a perfect temperature. We slept pretty well after that even though the car is way to small to sleep in.
Today we've just been to a town called Akureyri, we walked around and it was really nice and cozy. We're going back there tomorrow, it's on the way and most of the shops were closed today.
The hostel is really cute and cozy and the owner is so nice, but best of all is the bed! Never been so happy to see a bed in my entire life I think. It's time to say good night, I will definitely enjoy my bed tonight!
