Iceland road trip #2
Sleeping in a real bed was amazing, but we woke up in the middle of the night because a German guy, best described as a human and german version of the Swedish cook from the muppet show, snored extremely loud. But I was to tired to do anything about it. We fell back to sleep after a while and woke up pretty refreshed.
We left the hostel at around 11.00, after a nice yoghurt and skyr breakfast, and headed for Akureyri. Olivia bought a hoodie and I bought some compeed bandaid, well spent money.
We continued on road 1 to our first stop of the day, godafoss, another amazing waterfall. I asked a guy to take a picture of me and Olivia while we were sitting on some cliffs in front of the waterfall and I'm pretty sure that picture will be my new cover picture on Facebook.
Our second stop was at lake Myvatn, also a great place in a volcanic area. We walked up a small, very old, volcano and got some amazing panorama photos. The photos we take here are all amazing but they can never really show the real beauty of this place.
The road began to be a bit more like mountain roads, steep up hill, steep down hill and turning back and forth all the time, a little bit before Akureyri but it just got worse and worse. Today, after spending another night in the car, we continued our journey on road 1 towards our next accommodation. We drove for a bit when all of a sudden the road turned in to a gravel hell. The gravel road seemed to continue forever and on top of that it was extremely steep. I'm not afraid of heights but even I felt a little chill down my spine.
Finally we got to our accommodation for the night. It's a guest house located in a small village called Djupivogur. The scenery is amazing and our neighbours are super friendly, they are an Australian couple in their 60s. I hope we meet them for a bit again before we go tomorrow.
Now it's time to sleep in this lovely bed!
