Iceland Road Trip #3

We left our guest house, no too early in the morning but not to late either. The Australian couple had already checked out, which was a bit sad. We packed and continued our trip down south.

One thing that has been a great entertainment during this road trip is watching people when the refuel. People in Iceland, I don't know if they're locals or tourists, can not fill their tanks properly. We've seen so many people straggling, parking on the wrong side of the station, filling their tanks while the car is running (isn't that quite dangerous?) and people trying to tank both petrol and diesel in the same car.

After filling up our tank, and laughing a bit at other drivers, we continued towards the southern part of Iceland. We drove past Vatnajökull and a river filled with big pieces of ice, it was stunning! As we got down to one of the many waterfalls along the south coast, we suddenly saw two familiar faces. It was the Australian couple, we were very happy to see them! We said hi, laughed for a bit and went separate ways again. Me and Olivia continued climbing the waterfall, such a great view from the top, and then drove to the next one, which you could walk behind!

As the day went past, it was time to find somewhere to sleep and to eat. We headed for a small town called Vik to do some grocery shopping. And guess who we met at the beach in Vik?!! The Australian couple! They bought us pizza and a coffee, so sweet of them! And then we said our goodbyes for the last time. Me and Olivia went to see the puffins, the beach were extremely windy though so we didn't stay for very long but we got to see them swish by at least.

We found a parking space, our accommodation for the night. The next morning, we started driving again, we didn't do very much that day, mostly just driving around, finding our way to the Blue Lagoon which was the big excitement for the next day. The day finally ended, we took some walks in the volcanic landscape before falling asleep. When we woke up we were so relieved, because we didn't have to sleep in the car anymore! We went to the Blue Lagoon and spent the day there before returning to Reikjavik. It was amazing and I would definitely go again, but it was really touristy.

Back in Reikjavik we went to the hotel, but they had managed to overbook so we got transferred to a really nice, new hotel. Business class, 15th floor with a view over the city. We weren't sad!
