Melbourne

I don't think I've ever felt more lost than when I came to Melbourne. I'd read nothing about the city, I was sad to have left New Zealand and I arrived quite late so I was really tired. When you feel like this, the only thing you want is to come to your hostel with free wifi... That was not what happened here. I told the taxi driver to drive me to YHA Central, instead he drive me to YHA metro. I was lucky it wasn't the other way around, because metro usually has beds available, Central usually doesn't. I could stay there one night and they could just transfer the money that I'd already paid. I went to the room and opened my iPad to try to figure out where I was, how to come to the right hostel the next day and send a text home.. Turns out YHAs in Australia don't have free wifi like they do in New Zealand..

Except for my first, confusing night, I really liked Melbourne. I met up with the American girl Carly, that I'd met in New Zealand, and we had a really good time together! We were going out one night. We bought a bottle of wine to share and after drinking that we started walking to the city, ready to party... We couldn't find anywhere to go. We walked around for an hour or two and then we gave up and had mcFlurry at McDonald's instead. All in all, a really good night! We also walked around to try to find graffiti and cozy cafes, we weren't really lucky here either. We ended up in a really expensive neighbourhood, we were both really hungry so we tried to find something to eat. We found a cozy Italian restaurant, it was super expensive and the main course was about the size of an apatizer, it was really good though.. We had McDonald's when we got back to the city centre.

I've noticed that the world is really small. Like that time when I was in Taupo and found 3 other people from Växjö in the same room or all of times I've met people the second time in random places. My uncle knows a lot of people and it turns out one of these people live in Melbourne. I met Jesper for a lunch just because it was nice to meet someone that I had some sort of connection to. We went to a Chinese restaurant, the food was so good! And the company was even better. Jesper turned out to be one of the nicest and most caring people I've ever met and I am so happy to have met him!
