Swimming in Glacierwater

One of my favourite places on the South Island is definitely Wanaka. It's a small, cozy town next to New Zealand's second biggest lake, lake Wanaka. People say it's the smaller version, or the little sister of Queenstown (I'll write more about that later), so there's a lot of activities to do here. Or, if you're a bit crazy like me, you could go for a swim in the lake.

Now first of all, the lake is huge, like really, it's soooo big. It's also quite high up and next to mountains... The water from the melting glaciers around flows right into the lake, so it's pretty cold. Like really cold. But if you really want to go swimming and it's a hot day, it kind of works.

I met up with Laura and George again and we cooked dinner together, swedish taco! Even though it wasn't Friday. It was so good!

Unfortunately I just stayed in Wanaka for one night, I wish I would have stayed longer because it was a really nice place. But the day after, the bus left for Queenstown.

Queenstown is the capital city of adventure, adrenaline and party. There is no adrenaline activity you can not do in Queenstown, it's also the home of the first commercial bungyjump. The only crazy thing I did here though was to go for a swim in the lake, which was even colder than lake Wanaka. Refreshing... I've heard that if you stay in for more than 15-20 minutes you get hypothermia, which is pretty serious, so I didn't stay in for more than maybe 2 minutes. That was more than enough.
