Westport is just that, a port on the west coast, nothing less nothing more. The fact that I decided to stay here during New Years was a mystery to everyone else on the bus, especially since we were a great group of people, but I had promised a few friends to spend New Years with them in Westport and I was actually really excited! 

 

So I arrived and the first thing I did was to call the skydive place to see if they had found my iPad, which they had (thank god!). We decided that they were going to send it to Franz Josef Glacier, my next stop. That was a real relief and after that I could go back to being happy and excited about the skydive. 

 

New Year's Eve came and we, me, George, Simone, Elli and Laura, had a bbq together. So much food! We then drank some cider and beer before 12 and then we of course had some champagne (really cheap fuzzy wine). I don't know if Kiwis don't celebrate New Years the way we do or if Westport is just to small to have any real celebration, but there were no fireworks! What's up with that? How can you have no fireworks on New Year's Eve? It was a really great night though, even without the fireworks, and I didn't want it to be any other way.
