Huge lasagnas and great coffee
Our first stop in Colombia was Popayan. Mainly because it was the easiest town to get to after the border. There is not much to do in Popayan and most people escape to San Agustin as fast as possible. We didn't want to go to San Agustin though and we chose to stay and enjoy the calmness (not including the traffic) of Popayan for a day. We spent our day at a cafe, skyping and then left for a restaurant. We chose an Italian restaurant and I think I got the biggest lasagna I've ever had in my life. I couldn't even eat half of it, but it was so tasty!
The bus ride up to Salento was not pleasant, but definitely manageable. We changed buses in Armenia and continued to the small town of Salento.
Salento is known for its coffee fields and even though the town itself has a lot of charm, the coffee tour was one of the highlights for me. We went to a coffee farm, me and Simona, and paid for a guide to show us how the coffee is produced (organic and fair trade). We got to plant our own seeds, pick our own coffee fruits and after seeing the whole process we also got to taste the coffee. It was really good, maybe not quite strong enough for my Swedish taste buds, but put some more of that coffee powder in there and I'm in heaven!
I stayed in Salento three nights and that was a good amount of time for me. I left one day before Simona, but we met in Medellin again for a bit. We, of course, had some fikas and good food, but we also went to two different malls. We looked for bikinis, since we are both heading towards the Caribbean cost and at least I am planning to do a lot of swimming and tanning. I didn't find a bikini though, but Simona did. Just in time before I had to go to the airport to fly to Cartagena. Isn't it insane that a flight from Medellin to Cartagena is cheaper than a bikini? It's even half the prize! Shocking! I know!
