Curitiba and São Paulo

Amanda's parents did everything they possibly could to make me feel at home. They really tried to speak English, even when they spoke to each other, they made a really good BBQ and they always asked if I needed something, if I was hungry or if they could help me with something. I felt so welcome and I would love to host them in Sweden, to repay them for what they did for me! Amanda's friends were also really kind and helpful! I really like brazilians, because of their openness and the way they don't have a bubble. Swedes have this bubble around them, their private space, but I don't think I've met one Brazilian who's got problem with hugs, kisses or closeness in other ways.

I was supposed to leave Curitiba late Tuesday night, but I changed my plans to have dinner with Amanda's family one more time, and to sleep in a comfortable bed instead of a bus seat. We went to a Japanese restaurant, the food was so good! Tasted a bit like the Vietnamese food I tried in Aukland, New Zealand.

So I got on the bus 7.00 on Wednesday morning, hoping to be in São Paulo around 1.00 pm. That didn't happen. After about three hours, the police stopped the bus and went through everyone's belongings. At first I thought they were just looking in the hand luggage, then two men had to go outside of the bus with the police. I think they went through their other luggage. I noticed when we arrived at São Paulo that they must have gone through my bag as well. I had to show the police my passport, he smiled and said "oh Sweden! First time in Brazil?" And then gave it back to me. I guess I look really innocent because police men, wherever I go, seem to like me. Anyhow, after about an hour, they left and we could continue. But not for long though. We got stuck in traffic jam after about half an hour... I finally arrived at my hostel 16.30...

The reason I went to São Paulo was to meet Aline, who I met a year ago in New Zealand, but unfortunately she had to work so I couldn't see her. I only had two days in São Paulo and I didn't enjoy it that much. I was to tired to do anything, I couldn't really find anything interesting that I really wanted to do or see either so I had my first movie day since I left Sweden. I went for a walk to the supermarket, the area I stayed in was really nice with a lot of pretty houses, bought some fruits and watched a movie in my room. Sometimes you need one of those days, even when you're traveling.

So now I'm waiting for my next bus, it will take me to a place called Ubatuba. I have no idea if there's anything to do there but in the pictures, it looks like a good place to use my mask and snorkel for the first time!
