Ubatuba
Ubatuba is a small town with plenty of long beaches surrounding it. The town itself is nothing fancy, a few restaurants, hostels and pousadas, a hotel here an there and a park in the middle surrounded with a supermarket, pharmacy and a few small shops. The central beach is long and not crowded at all, since it's in the city. When the weather is nice, people go to the beaches up north, felix and prumirim for example, which are a short bus ride away from the center. I went to Prumirim my first day, and I didn't quite like it. The beach was crowded and the waves were huge, and since I'm a bit scared of water that was really frightening. My second day I just went down to the central beach, which I liked a lot more. The waves there were a lot smaller and it was just me and a couple of families spread out along the beach. The view is not to bad either.
The hostel I stayed in was called Ecotrip hostel, it sounded nice to me and it had good reviews. I guess the hostel itself was ok, it was clean and the breakfast was ok, but the beds were horrible (it felt like laying on a piece of wood) and the staff weren't very helpful. I tried to book my ticket to Rio, but I didn't understand the website since everything was in Portuguese. I tried to ask a girl in the reception, but it seemed like the only thing she was able to say was "go to beach instead." I gave in and went to the beach, hoping for someone else to be working when I got back. When I came back, there was a guy working instead (yey!). I asked him if he could help me and I tried to explain what the problem was, but I couldn't even complete the sentence before he started telling me that I could use their computer and what website I should use. I tried to tell him that the computer wasn't the problem, but again he didn't let me finish. Instead he started walking towards the computer and typing the address of the website. I started to get quite mad... I just gave up. I tried it again on my own and I thought I got it to work, which I didn't.
Overall Ubatuba was a nice place to spend a few days, if you like the beach. I got quite bored and I felt lucky that it was carnival, that made everything a little bit more exciting.
