Buenos Aires

So I've started my South America trip, first stop was Buenos Aires. I arrived in the morning on the 14th January, after a little hassle to find the bus I was going to take to my hostel, I finally got to Rock Hostel Km0 in the center of Buenos Aires. The hostel felt a little dodgy at first but after living there for 4 days, I can say that I absolutely loved it! The staff are amazing and there's a very friendly atmosphere throughout this quite small hostel.

Buenos Aires really swept me off my feet, it's a vibrant and beautiful city. At first I felt a little unsafe, the drivers drive like crazy and there is a risk walking around with something valuable, but by the second day all my worries were pretty much gone. I spent the first day just walking around town, trying to figure out the distances between places and exploring the parts near the hostel. The day after, I went on a free walking tour around town. Free walks, the company that arranges the tours, is a world spread company. It was really nice and I got to see and learn a lot!

Something that felt really special was the Recoleta cemetery. I know what you're thinking! "How could a cemetery be fun and interesting to visit?" Well, this isn't a normal cemetery, the graves are monuments. It's like walking around a fancy neighborhood for the dead. A very special experience.

The day after, I went to La Boca and Caminito. This is probably the most famous part of Buenos Aires, a neighborhood with really colorful houses. It was beautiful but very touristy, worth seeing but I enjoyed the walk there and back more than the actual sight. You should be Carnegie though if touren walking there since it can be a bit unsafe, don't show your valuables and stick to the big roads. After coming back from La Boca it was time for some food so I went to the kitchen, which was crowded, and started cooking. I started talking to a group of brazilians and we had our dinner together. Really cool people and I'm happy to have met them. We went to the Sunday market in San Telmo together the day after and right now we're actually on the same boat towards Colonia, Uruguay. We ended our Buenos Aires visit with some drinks at the rooftop last night. I was the only one who didn't speak Portugues, except for one other girl who spoke Spanish... I really have to learn some Spanish!

I'm excited to explore Uruguay, I didn't even plan on going there but I've heard it's beautiful and it's really easy to take the ferry from Buenos Aires, so why not?

Cheers!
