Punta del Diablo

Punta del Diablo is a really small, cute little coast town in the northern Uruguay. The only raod that isn't made of gravel is the main road. There is one ATM and no post office, but plenty of restaurants, hostels and hotels. Even though it sounds touristy, it doesn't really feel like a tourist attraction. It felt more like Colonia than Punta del Este.

I arrived with the bus in Punta del Diablo at around 08.30 pm and my plan was to walk to the hostel since I thought I knew how to get there. Turns out, I had no clue. I walked down the main road and couldn't find where I should turn left, so when I had walked all the way down to the ocean I had to ask where to go. I saw a bar, so I went in and asked the owners if they knew where the hostel was. They made a map for me! After asking two more strangers along the way, I finally found the hostel... Seems like I just love walking long distances with all my belongings on my back.

The hostel was really nice, a party hostel just a hundred meters from the beach. The staff spoke English and it was clean and tidy! The only bad thing about it was the beds, it felt like sleeping on a table or something instead of a mattress. I can sleep anywhere so it wasn't really a big problem for me.

There is not a lot to do in Punta del Diablo except for surfing sunbathing and swimming, so I filled my days with walking along the beach and exploring the small gravel roads around town. The second night was the best night of my trip so far. A few of the guys at the hostel had their guitars and drums with them so we had a jam session. I sang (the songs that I knew, which weren't many), one guy played a really tiny acoustic guitar, another guy played electric guitar and a third played the drums. It was awesome! Felt so cozy and nice.

Right now I'm laying in the grass outside of the immigration office, in Chuy, and waiting for the bus that will take me to Florianopolis, Brazil.

Cheers!
